City workers sometimes have to deal with far less than pleasant working conditions, but that’s basically part of the job. Andre Brown, 39, injured his left leg when he fell into the hole on the 1800 block of Northeast 150th Street on Thursday afternoon, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue spokesman Eddy Ballester said.

About 30 Miami-Dade Fire Rescue firefighters were brought in to remove Brown.

He was backing up a water and sewer truck when he got out to see whether he had enough room to continue.

He stepped on a Miami-Dade sewage vault valve box covered with rotted plywood and fell into a tightly confined space, Ballester said.”

Mr. Brown is expected to recover, but is listed in serious condition. Despite his injuries, the situation could have been much worse but for the efforts of rescue workers.
